The 2018 VIP Christmas Party was held at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church at 1228 Chestnut Drive in High Point, No. Approximately sixty (60) people were in attendance. Fun was had by all said the food was wonderful. One of the participants stated that she loved the personal contact she and her son had with the Lions.
OCTOBER 27, 2018
The 2018 Triad VisionWalk was held at Triad Park in Kernersville, NC. Many of the VIPs from High Point as well as members of the High Point Lions Club participated and had a great time. The final tally of how much money was raised has yet to be tallied but we know that, whatever was raised, will be used to benefit sight conservation and research.
OCTOBER 21-25, 2018
It was time for the North Carolina Lions 2018 VIP Fishing Tourament which was held at Nags Head, NC. From our area, we had fourteen (14) VIPs and three (3) volunteers from High Point and four (4) VIPs and one (1) volunteer from Greensboro. Everyone met at the parking lot of the former Shoneys Restaurant on Regional Road in Greensboro, NC boarded the tour bus on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at 9:30 am with great anticipation for the impending fun time that was to be held by all involved. After riding on the bus and stopping for rest already breaks and eating lunch, the group arrived at the Comfort Inn in Kill Devil Hills, NC at 5:00 pm. After everyone went to dinner at a restaurant that evening, everyone retired for the night.
Monday, October 22, 2018, was the first day of the fishing tournament festivities. Everyone woke up and enjoyed the hot breakfast buffet at the hotel and boarded the bus at 8:30 am to go and visit the Bodie Island Lighthouse near Nags Head, NC.After the visit to ther lighthouse, the group had lunch at Westcott Park. After a bit of shopping after lunch, it was off to the hotel to relax before going to dinner at the Lions Club Center in Manteo, NC to participate in the opening program to kick off the fishing tournament. After the dinner and program, the Lions threw a dance with a band named the Rondells providing then entertainment of the everting. The group arrived back at the hotel to retire for the night at around 9:30 pm to get some rest for the next morning.
Tuesday, October 23, 2018, was the day of the actual fishing tournament. It started early for the VIP{s and volunteers when they were on the tour bus at 6:15 am to be at the Lions Club Center in Manteo, NC to have breakfast prepared by various Lions Clubs from around Eastern NC. After breakfast, the group boarded the bus in order to go to where they were going to participate in the tournament. All of the VIPs with ther exception of three (3) went to Jeanette Pier in Nags Head, NC. The three (3) VIPs who did not go on ther pier decided to fish on a boat in the deep sea. Those who fished on the pier enjoyed lunch from Kentucky Fried Chicken. Fishing ended at 2:00 pm and the group went back to the hotel where they rested until 6:00 pm. They went back to the Lions Club Center for dinner and mix and mingle with other VIPs and Lions from all over the state. The group arrived backed at the hotel around 10:15 pm bad passed out shortly thereafter.
Wednesday, October 24, 2018, started at 6:30 am with the group having breakfast at the Lions Club Center in Manteo, NC. After breakfast, thee was a program sponsored by the North Carolina Lions as an educational seminar. Later on that morning, our VIPs from High Point along with some other VIPs from around the state did an exhibition of how Tom play Beep Ball. The group then went back to the hotel to rest up and get ready form the closing festivities that evening which ended with a bang. It was stated there were over 420 VIPs and over 350 Lions and volunteers that attended the fishing tournament which deemed this year’s festivities a tremendous success!!
OCTOBER 4, 2018
The High Point Lions Club held its annual VIP Cookout and Picnic at OakHollow Festival Park. The Lions arrived around 3 pm at the park shelter to set up and start cooking. On the menu was hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, slaw, chili, many desserts and drinks.to keep everyone cool. Most of VIPs were picked up and brought to the picnic by Lions.The fun began around 4:30 pm with some bingo games and socializing with everyone who attended. At around 5:30, everyone started eating and, yes, the food was delicious! The evening ended with the Lions giving out to all who attended while the gifts lasted. Everyone had the best time and are looking forward to next year’s cookout!
SEPTEMBER 5, 2018
The High Point Lions Club teamed up with the Blind and Visually Impaired Group of High Point to feed the hungry and give clothing to the less fortunate. This event was held at Free Will Higher Heights Church located on Washington Street in High Point, North Carolina. Over 150 bag lunches were served between 11:00 am-1:30 pm.
